About CIA Certification Course

Prerequisite
- Have a Bachelor’s degree or higher, or
- An active Internal Audit Practitioner designation, or
- Five years of internal audit experience, or
- Be an active student in your last year of college, or
- Be an active student at an accredited Internal Audit Education Partnership (IAEP) institution.
- Internal auditing experience of at least 12 months or an equivalent qualification
- Internal auditing experience of at least 24 months or an equivalent qualification
- Internal auditing experience of 60 months or equivalent

The CIA Exam is available on demand all year. Within 180 days after enrolling for the test, candidates must schedule their exam.

After the exam is completed, unofficial results are accessible immediately. After 1-2 days, the official results will be available on the IIA website.
Each CIA Exam Section is evaluated on a scale of 25 to 750, with a passing score of 600 needed. To obtain credit, objective questions are mechanically scored and must be answered properly. An answer’s comments and/or computations are not taken into account.
Yes. Individuals who are actively undertaking internal audit or similar duties must complete 40 hours of continuing education each year. Non-practicing persons must complete 20 hours of continuing education per year if they are not actively undertaking internal audit or similar duties.
